I try not to talk about it. Islam is a vast religion, with much to say about human psychology, social problems, the meanings of nature, and much more. But nowadays, 90% of the time, when people want to talk about Islam, they want to talk about violence and jihad and terrorism.
Much of the discussion about this subject is based on complete ignorance, and so my contribution to the conversation is to simply recommend that anyone who wants to discuss this issue should read the following two scholarly articles.
“Jihad in the Modern World” by Dr. Sherman Abdul-Hakim Jackson
“Jihad is Not Perpetual Warfare” by Imam Zaid Shakir
